Metabolic

5-Amino-1MQ

NNMT Inhibitor (Small Molecule) - Small-molecule NNMT inhibitor studied in metabolism research.

5-Amino-1MQ is a small-molecule inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), a target studied in adipocyte-metabolism and cellular-energy research.

It is the one entry here that is not a peptide, and that changes the whole record: no amino-acid sequence, a defined small-molecule formula, and enzyme inhibition rather than receptor binding as the mechanism under study. Sitting upstream of the NAD⁺ salvage pathway is why it is frequently run alongside NAD⁺ itself in metabolism research.

Background

5-Amino-1MQ (5-amino-1-methylquinolinium) is not a peptide. It is a small-molecule inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), the enzyme that methylates nicotinamide using S-adenosylmethionine. NNMT has been studied as a regulator of adipocyte energy metabolism: knocking it down in white adipose tissue and liver protected mice from diet-induced obesity (Kraus et al., 2014), and a series of membrane-permeable methylquinolinium inhibitors reversed high-fat-diet-induced obesity in mice (Neelakantan et al., 2018). Because NNMT draws on the same nicotinamide pool as the NAD+ salvage pathway, it is often studied next to NAD+ itself.

What the Aspect certificates show

There are 8 certificate records for the 50mg and 100mg vials, from two laboratories (Freedom Diagnostics and Accurate Test Labs), dated 14 November 2025 to 15 September 2026. Reported HPLC purity runs from 99.19% to 99.94%. Identity is confirmed by LC-MS/MS. It is supplied as an orange lyophilized powder. Being a defined small molecule, it has a formula (C10H11IN2, iodide salt) and molecular weight (286.11 g/mol) rather than a sequence. Each full report is available as a PDF on this page and in the COA library.

How it differs from related compounds

NAD+ is the metabolite in the pathway this enzyme feeds; 5-Amino-1MQ is studied as an upstream modulator rather than a replacement. MOTS-c is a mitochondrial-derived peptide studied in cellular energy research through a different mechanism.
